One of my favorite videos from the 80’s was Robert Palmer’s Addicted to Love. I was obsessed with the slicked-back hair, smoldering eye makeup, and vinyl red lips. As the youngest of four, I tended to be more rebellious and would apply black kohl eyeliner and my shiny bubblegum-flavored rollerball lip gloss in the bathroom at school and then rub it all off before I got home. Because of my strict Chinese upbringing, I was never allowed to wear makeup in high school.
Now that I've reached my middle years, pairing heavy eyes with a bold lip feels a bit dated and rather severe.
